What you hear is true . . . from a certain point of view
Music in Parallax was founded by Hayden Pyle in October 2024. The term "parallax" is used in astronomy to describe the apparent shift in position of a celestial body when viewed from two different perspectives, and Hayden found this application to music fascinating. The figure visually demonstrates this phenomenon.
People may have radically different experiences with the same piece of music at various points in their life, where the backdrop of musical expectations and personal/societal development contribute to one's experience with that music.
Additionally, Hayden's compositional approach often forces him to consider multiple questions while writing:
How does my musical language compare to, and communicate with, the backdrop of contemporary soundscapes?
What is the optimal balance of universal attainability and individual artistry?
Is my music in a strict orbit with certain musical and/or extra-musical forces, or is it relatively free from those gravitational pulls and striking out its own, uncharted path?
